Should I Get An App?

A lot of small businesses ask if I build apps? The real question is, do you really need an app? The first and probably biggest thing you’d have to consider if looking for an app for your business is cost. App’s generally work on certain devices like Apple, Android, Windows, BlackBerry, etc. This means each of these devices could require specific code to be written for your app to work with them. It also means that as these units get upgrades in their operating system that you’re app could cease to work and require reprogramming for them to work with different Operating System versions. Unless you are a programmer yourself, this could end up costing you quite a bit obviously. So the only other real question you need to ask is do I need access to mobile devices or computers that aren’t available through a web-page? This could be something like the gyroscope or compass in your phone. Chances are very strong that you don’t, this means more than likely you can do what you need and do it through a website. Using a website means your message will be available to all platforms without writing specific code regardless if they upgrade their device or not. This is not only a huge savings in money but also has a larger target at the same time. Also keep in mind that you can design a website to mimic apps using just regular HTML, CSS and JavaScript. There are also tools for some devices that will allow you to create an app which is more or less a shortcut to your website.
